Specifications and Format
 

 

The National Spanish Assessments measure Interpretive Communication in Listening Comprehension.  The student is given (1) a context in English, (2) an authentic spoken passage in Spanish and (3) a question based on one of the learner outcomes below and then followed by four answer choices.  They learner outcomes increase in difficultly as the student progresses to higher levels.

 

Module 1 - READING (12 questions)

 

The National Spanish Assessments measure Interpretive Communication in Listening Comprehension.  The student is given (1) a context in English, (2) an authentic spoken passage in Spanish and (3) a question based on one of the learner outcomes below and then followed by four answer choices.  They learner outcomes increase in difficultly as the student progresses to higher levels.  The specific learner outcomes tested for all levels are as follows:

 

Given an authentic spoken passage in Spanish, the learner will correctly:
1.  Identify the main ideas
2.  Identify supporting details
3.  Make and inference

Module 2 - LISTENING (12 questions)

 

The National Spanish Assessments measure Interpretive Communication in Listening Comprehension.  The student is given (1) a context in English, (2) an authentic spoken passage in Spanish and (3) a question based on one of the learner outcomes below and then followed by four answer choices.  They learner outcomes increase in difficultly as the student progresses to higher levels.  The specific learner outcomes tested for all levels are as follows:

 

Given an authentic text written in Spanish, the learner will correctly:
1.  Identify the main ideas
2.  Identify supporting details
3.  Make and inference

Module 3 – VOCABULARY (40 questions)

The specifications for vocabulary on the National Spanish Assessments are the same as the specifications on the National Spanish Examinations.

 

Module 4 – GRAMMAR (40 questions)

The specifications for grammar on the National Spanish Assessments are the same as the specifications on the National Spanish Examinations.
