July & August 2022

These July & August 2022 NSE Shout-Outs go to our Teacher Stipend winners: Señoras Cherie Garrett y Stephanie Grabowski-Devlin!

Cherie Garrett is a Spanish teacher and the World Language Department Chair at Dallastown Area High School in Pennsylvania.  Also, she is an active member of the Executive Council of PSMLA, and is currently serving as the Advocacy Chair.  This year, she had an integral role in the passing of the PA Seal of Biliteracy at the state level.  At her district, she is the coordinator of the Intermediate World Language Program, the Global Scholars Program, the PA Seal of Biliteracy and the World Language Career Symposium.  Lastly, Cherie regularly attends state world language conferences where she presents on a plethora of pedagogical methodologies that can be easily implemented into the world language classroom.

Stephanie Grabowski-Devlin was born in Brooklyn, NY.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University where she double majored in Spanish Literature and Spanish Language and Culture and then received a Master of Arts degree in Spanish from Yale University. She moved to Massachusetts in 1991 and began teaching at Westford Academy. Thirty one years later, she is still teaching in Westford and now serves as the World Language Curriculum Coordinator for grades 6-12. Although she has taught all levels from Novice - AP, she primarily teaches intermediate level classes at the high school. Stephanie is the advisor for Westford Academy’s chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica and has coordinated the administration of the National Spanish Exam to students in level 1 through AP for many years. She started a Spanish exchange program at Westford Academy in 2010 and is looking forward to continuing the program with their partner school in Salamanca during the upcoming year.  For the past two years, Stephanie has been focusing her efforts on increasing the number of students at Westford Academy who seek to qualify for the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy and was pleased to see the number of recipients from Westford more than double from 2021 to 2022. Stephanie is very grateful to the AATSP for helping to make her trip to Puerto Rico and her attendance at this conference possible.

Thank you, Señoras Garrett & Grabowski-Devlin, for everything you do for your students!
